Stability of the splay state in networks of pulse-coupled neurons

چکیده
We analytically investigate the stability of splay states in the networks of N globally pulse-coupled phase-like models of neurons. We develop a perturbative technique which allows determining the Floquet exponents for a generic velocity field and implement the method for a given pulse shape. We find that in the case of discontinuous velocity fields, the Floquet spectrum scales as 1/N2 and the stability is determined by the sign of the jump at the discontinuity. Altogether, the form of the spectrum depends on the pulse shape, but it is independent of the velocity field.PACS: 05.45.Xt, 84.35.+i, 87.19.lj.

Splay States in Finite Pulse-Coupled Networks of Excitable Neurons
The emergence and stability of splay states is studied in fully coupled finite networks of N excitable quadratic integrate-and-fire neurons, connected via synapses modeled as pulses of finite amplitude and duration. For such synapses, by introducing two distinct types of synaptic events (pulse emission and termination), we were able to write down an exact event-driven map for the system and to ...
متن کاملStability of the splay state in pulse-coupled networks.
The stability of the dynamical states characterized by a uniform firing rate (splay states) is analyzed in a network of globally coupled leaky integrate-and-fire neurons. This is done by reducing the set of differential equations to a map that is investigated in the limit of large network size. We show that the stability of the splay state depends crucially on the ratio between the pulse width ...

We analyze the effects of synaptic depression or facilitation on the existence and stability of the splay or asynchronous state in a population of all-to-all, pulse-coupled neural oscillators. We use mean-field techniques to derive conditions for the local stability of the splay state and determine how stability depends on the degree of synaptic depression or facilitation. We also consider the ...

In this work, we study dynamical behavior in a ring of coupled nonlinear oscillators and focus on the stability of homogeneous steady state and splay states by performing linear stability analysis. Different cases from local (nearest-neighbor) coupling to global (all-to-all) coupling by increasing the range of coupling are studied. Some explicit stability results for each possible splay state a...

We analyze the existence and stability of phase-locked states of neurons coupled electrically with gap junctions. We show that spike shape and size, along with driving current (which affects network frequency), play a large role in which phase-locked modes exist and are stable. Our theory makes predictions about biophysical models using spikes of different shapes, and we present simulations to ...
